The Evolution Plan proposes to create an innovative mixed use community that strengthens the existing film studio uses while creating new opportunities for people to work, live, and play on Toronto’s waterfront. Through its operations and development of the Film Studio District, high-paying jobs within the film, television and digital media sector will be generated. Every million dollars of film and TV production in Ontario generated 23 full-time industry jobs.

Pinewood Toronto Studios is located in the Port Lands on Toronto’s eastern waterfront, a significant land area slated to undergo major investment and revitalization by the City of Toronto and their partners. Within the Port Lands, Pinewood Toronto Studios will be the creative anchor to an emerging waterfront neighbourhood, the Film Studio District. The Evolution plan is a blueprint for how its approximately 30-acres of land within the approximately 140 acres Film Studio Precinct will transform over the short, medium, and long term. The Plan includes upgrades and improvements to Pinewood Toronto Studio’s dilm and television studios, flexible spaces for media and innovation and complementary uses, such as culture, retail, hotel, and residential.The Evolution Plan will foster a strong community that builds upon the film, television and digital media cluster already established in this area.

Pinewood Toronto Studios is a leader in Toronto’s film and television sector and is committed to enhance its world-class facility to attract large film productions, such as Total Recall (2011), Robocop (2013), and Pacific Rim (2012). It is also committed to supporting television productions, such as Breakout Kings (2011) and Covert Affairs (2009), as well as independent films, such as Cosmopolis (2011). Phase 2 of Pinewood Toronto Studios has recently been completed, bringing three new sound stages and support facilities designed specifically for television and smaller film productions. The Evolution Plan supports industry growth by creating a variety of the right type of spaces that will ensure the Film Studio District Flourishes.

Pinewood Toronto Studios, which is part of the Pinewood Studios Group, currently comprises a world-class facility with 2 special effects stages and 10 purpose built sound stages, including the largest soundstage in North America, offices that can house several productions at a time and a variety of support facilities.
